- Graduated from Cambridge University (1987) and University of Manchester (1991). Honours at University of Manchester.
- Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons (England) 1995. Awarded FRCS (Coloproctology) awarded 2002. Awarded Inter-Collegiate Medal for Outstanding Performance in the Inter-Collegiate Examination 2002.
- Appointed Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, Leeds Teaching Hospitals 2002. This involves diagnosis and management of bowel and anal conditions eg bowel cancer, haemorrhoids, fistula in ano, fissures, diverticular disease, colonoscopy.
- Specialist areas of practice: tertiary referral practice dealing with complex hernias, inflammatory bowel disease, radiation damaged bowel, intestinal failure, management of primary bowel cancer with synchronous liver metastases & pilonidal sinus surgery.
- Lead Clinician Colorectal Surgery 2009-2015. Chair Yorkshire Colorectal Cancer Network 2009.
- Medical Director, Alliance Health Group 2018-date.
- Royal College Adviser on specialist appointments to consultant surgical posts.
- Advisory work with surgical equipment manufacturers, mesh manufacturers & support garment manufacturers.
- Expert witness work for: claimants, HM Coroner, NHS Indemnity/resolution, Alliance Health Group, Spire Hospital Group.
- Referrals for re-do / complex hernia surgery from East Anglia, Wales, Merseyside, Manchester & North West, Lincolnshire, Newcastle & Teeside.
